First the Vengaboys, now AQUA!

What has Sydney become? It's like the 90's is coming back again and we're able to relive those childhood hits. Just to refresh your memory (in case you've forgotten or you're in denial) they were the ones that made 'Barbie Girl' and a whole suite of other lollypop pop songs (see what I did there?)

Aqua - Aquarium

I know you're all shouting, tell me more! I want to know when and where they're coming. Well their first show is sold out! (cue sounds of sadness and disappointment) but you'll be glad to know there is a second show up for offer!

When? 16th & 17th of March

Where? The HiFi, Sydney

How much? $60.50

Want to know more?

City 2 Surf – 5 weeks to go

With five weeks to go until the torturous 14 kilometer marathon known as the City 2 Surf, it's been on my list of things to do for a few years and this time I'm actually going to do it. The proof is below, the bib came today and I'm in the Westpac Yellow group, i.e. the one for walkers and joggers. Probably should have gone into the blue group looking back now but I'm just starting out so Yellow will have to do.

53973

Bib number is 53973, nothing special or fancy about it but I'm aiming for a sub 90 minute time and hopefully if I can keep up my training at the gym, I should be able to make it. I'm currently quite confident of making it the whole way without walking, whether or not I can maintain an average speed of just over 9km/h over the treacherous heartbreak hill will remain unknown.

Hope everyone else doing the run has been preparing for it, it should be a blast :D .

2011 begins, and I’m almost there

So after this post I'll be a couple of photos from being up-to-date, but since I stopped blogging for a while until now, quite a few things have changed, I'm finally in my final semester at Uni with another two subjects to go (seriously can't wait til it's over) and in addition to that, I had started full time work. Such a drastic change from being able to laze around and bludge to getting up before 7am getting ready to catch the train every day to work. Days at work vary, some insanely hectic to others where you're not too busy. Team's been great, everyone around is heaps friendly and always willing to help out and answer questions. I won't mention the awesome start to the year, walking out of the Etihad Stadium with a huge smile on my face, if you weren't there, you wouldn't understand.

Deb's birthday wasn't too far away from the start and I was there to take a few snaps.

Next up was my man Mike's 22nd birthday. For some reason this kid decided not to have a 21st birthday but instead, opts for a large 22nd! I just don't get him sometimes, but it was a great party despite me not being able to get back in at 12 as Aurorar bar sucks and no re-entry after 12 is permitted. Cover photo is in black and white because I'm moody and all that ;) .

Tang turns 22

Final set of photos to complete this post is little Yvonne's 22nd birthday, celebrated with plenty of food.

Yvn's 22nd

So just another post and I'll be good to go, apologies to those waiting for photos (if you want them quick pay me :P ).

GODSKITCHEN in 3D

So the long weekend is quickly approaching and that means one thing for me, the night long party which is Godskitchen. It's been so long since a decent trance event has been on the Sydney calendar and there are some high expectations after the epic that was the Boombox, the same time last year. This year the Boombox has been packed away and the 3D trend is continuing on, with no idea what to expect, I'm quite excited. This year's line up is pretty good again with Andy Moor, Marcel Woods, John O Callaghan and Wippenberg representing Sydney's lineup (supported by locals VLN and Thomas Knight). It's a shame that us Sydney-siders miss out on Binary Finary but it's still a strong line up none-the-less.

Just to get you in the mood, I've linked some youtube videos to some tunes produced by the artists playing and will be what I'll be looking forward to.

Upcoming events

Despite still being a while away, I am absolutely pumped for a few upcoming events with the next event just over five weeks away. It's been a while since the last Trance event due to it being winter with the exception of We Love Sounds (more like We Love Armin) but the Spring/Summer festivals are making their way here soon. So, three events in 4 weeks with Cream presenting Ferry Corsten's Twice In A Blue Moon supported by Giuseppe Ottaviani followed by DEFQON1 Maximum Force Readiness and finally Godskitchen's Boombox to top it all off.

First, Cream. This'll be the first time that I'll see Ferry Corsten play a live arena type show, typically I've seen him at Sublime (as a matter of fact twice) and he's always delivered a stunning show with a smooth set mixed to perfection. I have wanted to experience Full On Ferry for myself but I guess this will be the closest I can get for now and I'm happy enough that Ferry's playing a show at the Hordern. I think Ferry's bringing down a vocalist so it'll make it something a bit more special than a typical DJ only set, similar to Armin Only in 2008 which absolutely blew my mind. To be honest, I'm not too knowledgeable about Giuseppe Ottaviani but from what I have been told, he's a class act, so it should be a great night.

The next event on the calander is a only a week after Cream and that's going to be the biggest hard dance music event in Australia. It's DEFQON1 and it's on and island... Surrounded by water! (no shit) I gotta say, this event is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I'm not the biggest fan of hardstyle music but it's just going to be such a massive event that I have to see it for myself, the other thing that swayed me is the fact that it's multiple stages including a hard trance and hardcore stage which should give me some variety once I get sick of the doof doof of the hardstyle. No doubt about it, it'll certainly be an interesting event and something that intrigues me, I'll reserve judgement until I actually experience the thing.

The third and final event that's confirmed for me is Godskitchen for 2009. This time round, they're bringing the whole boombox tour down under and it should be a spectacular show. For those who don't know what the boombox show is it's a massive stage with an appearance of 8x3 cubes with images projected across the front of the stage. It's a contraption designed by Exyzt, the same mob that created Etienne De Crecy's cube show which was demonstrated to us at Future Music Festival (Youtube it for the wows). It certainly will provide a spectacular show, unlike the crappy highschool standard production of Godskitchen 2009 which was plagued by poor promoting, ticket sales, production and sound quality. It was just a bad combination and if Future Entertainment think they can pull a stunt like that again, Godskitchen will surely be boycotted for the future years. Poor ticket sales is no excuse, put on a good party and the ticket sales will roll in. ID&T still managed to put on an amazing show at Trance Energy despite less than spectacular ticket sales.

That's it for now, I can't wait for the first event to come.

New Zealand Trip Pt. 2

Due to the impatience of Tiffany, I uploaded pictures from our Bungy jump first, but this post is what shoulda came first, any how here it is anyway.

After the brief stop to check out the scenery, we headed to a campervan camp site, on arrival we set up the camper vans and went for a short walk to find some fire wood on the ground. After staying the night at a campervan camp site where we had dinner and lit a fire, not being able to sleep very well, I decided to go for an early morning walk. The time was 6am and the sun wasn't even close to being up yet, moon was out and it was dark still I then went to relight the campfire to warm up a little and then proceeded on my walk. Armed with a weak torch, my DSLR camera and a thick jacket covering a relatively thick jumper, I set out to explore the surrounds, from the camp site we could hear the soft sound of running water so i decided to check out where it was coming from. As I walked, the sky lit up slowly and slowly, start from an almost pitch black to a calming dark blue which was getting lighter and lighter, I found lots of white rounded rocks stuck in the ground, not sure how they got there though. I found a walking trail which I followed, it was slightly hilly and quite damp with a few muddy puddles, approaching the end of my walk, I was confronted by a trotting noise and a grunt, looking to the bushes to my left I see 3 massive horses just standing there, I walked away as I wasn't sure if they were trained or wild. After seeing me they headed closer and past me, a few more followed. After standing there cold and looking like a tard, 3 more came, stopping when they saw me, they slowly approached and I had a good look at them, they appeared to have owners so they came closer slowly, enough for me to touch, as they just stood there I reached over for a pat and it seemed quite friendly despite being just as tall as me. They then walked away, I tried to follow but there was a tiny stream of water, just a bit too wide for me to jump across carrying a large camera.

On the return I took a different route and this lead to a dirt track leading all the way around the camp site, hoping to be able to cross through the grass I then realised why the track went all the way around, there was a small stream in the middle with grass growing over it. Not knowing, I stepped into it with one foot, soaked my right foot and socks, not happy. Once I got back I sat by the fire to dry out my shoes and socks, went for a short jog and showered and stuff. Had a quick brekkie and we soon left. We were heading towards Queenstown with a stop by at Lake Tekapo, this lake has this really nice blue and azure colour to it, it was crystal clear as well very pretty. Once we moved on, the nice blue water followed along the road we drove on, eventually hitting a Salmon Fish farm where you could feed the fish for free, and they were pretty big. Heaps of 'em and they just snap up the food you throw in, we left the place with 4 individual fish, a few more pieces for myself :) , back on the journey we stopped at Tarras for lunch where they had a little convenience store and cafe type thing, all this with a mountain in the backdrop with a couple of large rocks on it which looked like they could fall. Continuing on the road to Queenstown we were lead to follow a river which ran along the side of the road in the gorges below, eventually leading us to the Karawau bridge, the first ever Bungy Jumping site, unfortunately for us that day, a busload of tourists had arrived before us and it was booked out for the day.

When night fell we were in the outskirts of Queenstown and we stopped for the night to prepare dinner, it was Salmon on the BBQ and sashimi style as well, with the fish so fresh, it was delicious. Once finished, the night was spent heading towards Milford Sound for a tour cruise and onboard buffet. The weather in the area changed drastically, from a beautiful sunny day to a cloudy overcast with heavy rain at points, not idea but it allowed us to check out the loads of waterfalls as the rain water ran down the mountains. The view from the boat was fantastic with mountainous ranges surrounding the water, waterfalls appearing in almost every direction, some large and spectacular. Upon our arrival back to shore, we departed immediately back to Queenstown where we would spend the night. The morning however would be one of awesome-ness as some of just leap off a bridge being supported only by a latex rope which you'd hope wouldn't snap.

Sensation White…

Holy crap, the world's leading dance event organised by ID&T is going to hit Australia and it's for real. This is just going to be HUGE and a trip down to Melbourne just for it will be awesome. It's going to be on New Years Eve/Day and at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne. 3 Million dollar budget, forty five thousand people for a massive ten hour show with pyrotechnics, awesome lighting show, lasers, performers, dancers and other amazing cool shit. Tix on sale July 24th supposedly and I just can't wait.

It's going to be SIMPLY AMAZING

12 days left…

... til the world's number 1 DJ comes to Sydney and plays his massive 9 hour show, Armin Only. It'll be a hectic night starting at 9pm and not ending until 6am the next morning, it's also being filmed for his Armin Only DVD and hopefully we can find our way onto it.

Just going with Richard, Jean, Vonam and Ray. Will be a sensational night, if I can manage to stay up all night.
